Transitioning to Mrs. Speech Online: A New Chapter in Teletherapy

Hey there, wonderful followers of Mrs. Speech's Room! I hope this message finds you all in good spirits and thriving in your respective journeys. It's with a heart full of excitement and a hint of nostalgia that I'm reaching out to share some news with you today. After much contemplation and careful consideration, I'm thrilled to announce a significant transition in my professional life. As you may have already guessed from the title, I'm moving my blog from Mrs. Speech's Room to Mrs. Speech Online at https://mrsspeechonline.blogspot.com/. Why the change, you ask? Well, as life often unfolds in unexpected ways, my path as a speech-language pathologist has taken a remarkable turn. While I've cherished every moment spent in face-to-face therapy sessions, circumstances have led me to fully embrace the world of teletherapy. Yes, you heard it right! I am no longer an in-person therapist but have transitioned entirely to teletherapy. It's a decision that didn

Back to School TPT Sale!

I love TPT sales! I always get such useful things from TPT. This time I'm joining the What’s in Your Cart? BTS 2015 Linky Party hosted by Speech Room News. I am having a limited sale on my new products at Teachers Pay Teachers. 10% off during the summer sale on August 3 & 4 to introduce items I created this summer: 1. Beginning Rhyming Cards These cards are to teach the concept of rhyming. They are perfect for my kiddos who are working on phonological awareness - some of them just don't understand rhyming and this set breaks it down for them. 2. Antonyms - Upper Elementary Level These cards go beyond the basic antonyms in most commercial card decks. I found myself needing these for those kiddos who have memorized the "easy" antonyms and need practice with more difficult concepts. 3. Taking Perspective Matrix For those tasks that are so difficult to simply record as wrong or right, I develop matrices to score responses. This is one that br

Bulletin Boards

I know it's been a while since my first post - here's to a new year and new possibilities! Maybe I'm different than other speechies out there, and I'm certainly different than all the teachers in my school, but I only do my bulletin board once a year. I have one large bulletin board in my elementary room, and I use it to keep individual data charts for each student. I had a mine craft theme for my bulletin board last year. Every student who came in commented on it. It was great for starting off those speech and language samples! I'd love to hear what creative things you did for your speech room! I'll be back with what I'm doing for this year! Jennifer Tillock, M.S. CCC-SLP Mrs. Speech

First blog post ever!

This is my first post on my very own blog!  I'm finally getting some breathing room from all the activity at the beginning of school and thought I'd start a blog like everyone else (well, everyone whose blogs I've been visiting, anyway).  So here it is! Mrs. Speech's room is to document all those ideas and great finds I have that I just have to share with someone.  Lately, I've really been impacted by how many of those unintelligible kids have auditory discrimination issues.  It seems that every time I get one of those kids that are mixing up random sounds, I delve further and find that they aren't discriminating the sounds correctly when they hear them.  So of course they aren't saying them correctly! A free resource I want to share to help with this is The Listening Room , by Hearing Journey, which is a forum that was created to support cochlear implants.  You have to log in to view the resources, but boy, are they awesome!  The Compass Test is an audi
